Town Tigers Play With Season on The Line.

July 25th, 2010

Locals again prove no match for high powered Belle Plaine offense, and that lefty-Johnson guy got his groove on to the tune of 14 strikeouts. Luke Frauendienst had all three of Henderson's hits, including a two-run homer and RBI hit in the third, giving the Hendersons a 3-2 lead until all heck broke loose in the bottom of the fourth. Lone Tigers error and defensive miscommunication allow BP to bust it open.

It was harder fought than it was pretty, but the Tigers emerge 5-4 winners in RD 1 of the Central Division playoffs. Locals put lead-off guy on in seven of eight innings but fail to muster much against crafty lefty from Waconia, Moistrovich or something to that affect. Waconia loaded bases with one one out in eigthth but Tigers induce 1-2-3 double play and a pop out to survive the inning. Matt Nagel RBI single scored Bryan Petzel with eventual winning run in seventh. Dan Dahn, Greg Graham, Chase Boehne and Ryan Henke also hit safely for the locals.

Cody Boelter and Chase Boehne combined to protect an early lead as the Tigers wrapped up the No. 4 seed in the River Valley Central with a 10-6 win over Waconia. Means little, however, other than the Tigers will be the home team on the scoreboard in Green Isle Wednesday night when the teams meet again for the right to travel to top-seeded Belle Plaine on Friday night. The loser will play the loser of Friday night's Chanhassen/LeSueur game on Sunday in Chanhassen or LeSueur in an elimination game.

The Tigers hit some rollers and flares, and took advantage of an A's pitching staff grown weary from five games in seven days to score an 11-1 over Arlington Wednesday night in Arlington. Mat Peot pitched a 2-hitter. Nine different Tigers shared 10 or 11 hits, depending on which scorebook you reference.

Tigers dropped two games against formidable foes at the Arlington/Gaylord last weekend. Lamberton scored on three-straight two-out hits in the fifth for the game's only run in a 1-0 Tigers defeat on Saturday morning. Tigers bats still asleep for the 10:30 a.m. affair, as Greg Graham and Koester have only safeties. Tigers only threat in sixth with two-on and one out, but failed to score. Cody Boelter pitched admirably in defeat.

Lake Henry took advantage of two Tigers errors in the third on Saturday afternoon in Arlington to post three runs, and added one later for insurance. Luke Frauendienst and Matt Nagel pitch well, but again the Tigers offense fails to deliver. Frauendienst two hits. Schuneman, Hammes, Dahn, Koester one hit each.

Henderson had five doubles amongst its 11 hits, two for Matt Nagel and one each for Mitch Hammes, Dan Dahn and Chase "Chad" Boehne. Dahn had two hits and three RBI and Koester had two hits and was chased home from first on a two-out double by Dahn. It took the 40-year-old an inning-and-a-half to catch his breath. Mat Peot slings four hitter as Tigers finally win a baseball game.

Tigers drop second one-run game to LeSueur in 10 days. Rally falls short with go-ahead run at second base. Five of six losses within the division are by one-run. Hard to really know if that means anything. After ninth inning rally falls short for second straight night, team discusses not rallying to lose by one. More importantly, and sadly, Cole Boelter is likely out for the season with a shoulder injury.

Tigers finally win a division game, 6-3, over the Chanhassen Red Birds. Tigers had 12 hits, including three for Greg Graham, and two for Dan Endres, Matt Nagel and Luke Frauendienst. Frauendiest's second hit was a two-out, two run single that made a 4-2 count 6-2. Cole Boelter allowed four hits through 8 1/3 to collect the victory.

Tigers drop a one-run affair to the first-place Braves in a back and forth tussle. Proud Papa Greg Graham hit a homer on Father's Day to pull the locals to 6-5 in the bottom of the 11th, but the tying run would die on second base. Henderson left the bases loaded in the eighth and ninth innings.

Tigers take advantage of a Saints squad left short-handed by the Gustavus Bar Crawl. Henderson turned three St. Peter errors into runs to take a 4-0 lead after three. Jordan 10, Tigers 0 (7 innings)

The wheels to the Tigers wagon were likely rolling north up 169 Sunday afternoon, as they certainly came off in the sixth inning against the Brewers on Sunday. Jordan made a 1-0 lead 5-0 then 10-0 by battering nine hits in the sixth and seventh innings and taking advantage of some Tigers misques. Tigers offense is still nowhere to be found, as they produced but two hits, and have 16 total hits in 33 innings at the bat.

It's the second year in a row Henderson has escaped Irish Yard with a one-run victory. Mat Peot (5 IP) and Cody Boelter (4 IP) combined on a five-hitter. Tigers produce but three hits in this one.

The defending Class 'B' state champion Shakopee Indians began defeding their title by making use of a strong wind blowing straight out to left field in belting two home runs and a number of doubles amongst their 15 hits and coasting to a 10-0 victory over the Tigers. The Tigers offense is yet to get on track, as it mustered only five hits on the day, two of which were solid one each by Mitch Hammes and Matt Nagel. Cole Boelter, Mat Peot and Nagel pitched admirably against a tough Shakopee lineup, and the Tigers defense played pretty well, committing but one error.

Tigers and Cubs brave the drizzle and squeeze in the opener Sunday, April 25 at Hilltop. Cubs pitch, hit and field better and score 11-1 victory. Despite the one-sided affair not all is bad, Tigers swing it OK against some good Cubs pitching and pitch OK but is a bit too generous with its defense.

Weekend went well. We either tied 7-7 or lost 8-7. I thought we had tied, trailing 0-3, tied at 3, down 3-6, ahead 7-6 then NP scored one in the eighth and we ended tied. But sounds like I might've lost a tally that made it 4-3 NP before it was 6-3 NP and in reality 7-3 NP. I thought I had said to their coach before toeing the rubber "this will be it whether you score or not?" and he agreed, and I understood that he thought we were tied, too? - Koester
