A Word From Troy:

It is with great embarrassment and humility that I post that the Tigers have been ruled ineligble for further post season play. ALL players were required to sign new contracts prior to the 2008 season and there was an oversite with one of our players. Despite that this individual has played with the Tigers since day 1 and was included on our 2006 and 2007 rosters and is perfectly legal, he was not on our 2009 roster. This falls squarely on my shoulders because I attend roster meetings and did not recognize this individual's absence as my assumptions were that our existing players were there, and my focus on the inclusion of any new players. (What do they say happens when you assume, you make an a$$ out of U and ME. I've achieved that).

I recognized the omission this a.m. when I was reviewing our final roster for regions and immediately got on the phone with the League, Region and State Board officials. Our best case scenario would've been to continue without the player, but the rules are pretty black and white and the State Board ruled that we have used an ineligible player. I will go find a hole and crawl in it for a couple of months.

I faxed copies of our 2006 and 2007 rosters to the State Secretary in hopes that they would grant us a bit of a pardon, but the rules are pretty well stated. There are many instances around the state when teams try to pull fast ones, and the State Board has expressed great regret with the way they had to rule in our case, knowing that this was an exciting time for us and a good thing for Minnesota Amatuer Baseball as a whole, but if they make an exception then they have no credibility.

Again, this falls squarely on my shoulders for not recognizing the ommission earlier in the season, and I feel terrible for the ballplayers that have laid it on the line three times a week since late April. People in the amatuer baseball community say great things about what we've created, and many have called this a.m. to express their regrets, and to say "have the board call us to vouch for you guys."

I could've easily moved forward and not used said player, but that is not the way that I operate, nor the way the Henderson Tigers should be represented. If you see me on the street wincing in the next couple weeks it's because I'll be kicking myself in the groin during the immediate future. My sincere apologies for any embarrassment that I might've caused the community.

Hopefully see you all in 2010 and we'll try this again.

With Henderson scoring 2 In the top of the 6th off a Mat Peot single, the locals await a rain delayed continuation of the game in Belle Plaine Tomorrow at 2pm. The game will take place where it left off (Nick Willmsen at the plate with 2 strikes, good luck Nick). The conclusion will determine who competes with Belle Plaine at 4PM for seeding in the Regional Tournament. Wish Us Luck.

Pregame - For the third time in 12 days it will be Peot v. Wagner, as (3) Henderson will travel to (2) Waconia to determine the River Valley League Central Division's second Region 6C competitor ... The teams have split their seven all-time meetings, including 1-1 in playoff matchups ... Waconia scored four times in the seventh inning to defeat LeSueur 5-1 on Wednesday night.

Had the Hendersons been told "you'll hold Belle Plaine to 5" they would've said, "we'll take that" considering BP scored 35 runs in the two meeting this season. As it stood, BP's willy veteran Shane Hoffman gave up hits to the first two batters of the game before inducing a double play, and cruised until running into trouble and surrendering two in the sixth. By then, though, BP had built a 5-0 lead thanks to a two-out, two-run single in the first (afterwhich the ump told the Henderson catcher that he'd missed the previous pitch that would've been strike three. Umping 101, don't tell the catcher you missed one, especially if he singles in two on the next pitch. Maybe that's OK in April, but it stinks in July). Anyway, Dan Huber (3 hits) hit a homer to start the BP fifth, then three straight doubles made it 5-0 before Cole Boelter gave way to Cody Boelter, who shut down the Belle Plaines for the remainder of the affair. Hoffman surrendered the ball to Brad Lawson to start the seventh, and Lawson faced little adversity in his three innings of work. Pretty good ballgame, Henderson musters but 5 or 6 hits, those by Dan Dahn, Luke Frauendienst, Kirby Weckworth, Mitch Hammes, Cole Boelter and Matt Graham.

The second of Mitch Hammes' two-run homers gave the Tigers a 6-4 lead in the ninth. Matt Graham followed with a triple into the right field corner and scored on Greg Graham's sac fly. Mat Peot allowed a walk and HBP to start the ninth, then Luke Frauendienst walked the first batter he faced in relief, bases loaded none out. A 4-6-3 twin killing helped the cause, but another hit and a walk left first-and-third with two out before Frauendienst recorded a strike out to end the game. Hammes also hit a two-run homer in a four-run third off Waconia ace Rob Wagener, who controlled the game from the fourth to ninth inning, allowing the Lakers to tie the score at 4 with a two run seventh. The Hendersons will travel to Belle Plaine on Tuesday night to battle the top-seeded Belle Plaines, who have scored 25-10 and 10-3 victories over the locals this season. The winner will advance to the Region 6C tournament, the loser will play the Waconia/LeSueur winner on Friday night.

Pitching and defense. Despite only having one hit through six innings, the Tigers were able to capitalize when Greg Graham and Bryan Petzel started the seventh with base hits. Two pitching changes, a handful of walks, a few hits and a couple Nine errors later and the Tigers had thrown a nine on the Nine that held up for a 9-2 victory over their former Diamond River Valley League rival. Cole Boelter (5 1/3), Luke Frauendienst (1 2/3) and Cody Boelter (2) combined on a seven hitter.

Luke Frauendienst, Matt Graham and Cole Boelter had two hits apiece for the Tigers. Henderson had won four straight games at YA (over YA, Colonge twice and Plato) before the Cardinals took their home field back. In a true symbol of battered, the Tigers leave the field for their 10-day break with 39-year-old manager Troy Koester limping off the mound after surrendering hits to two of the four batters he faced. Such was the theme of the first two-thirds of the Tigers season as the team now prepares for a 10-day break. The Prior Lake Jays were the latest team to crowd the batrack in the visitor's dugout at Hilltop, banging 23 hits off four Tigers pitchers. The locals crawled to within 9-7 after trailing 8-0, but couldn't contain the Jays offense.

Tigers survive 11 walks and work out of trouble all night. Starting pitcher Cody Boelter battled through five innings before handing the ball to his brother, who surrendered the lead to put himself in position for the win. Luke Frauendienst allowed one hit in two innings for the save. It's always fun to play in Young America.

A word from Pete:

Unless you caught the early bus up to Paradise Shores and Resort, you will still be able to read this...

Your Henderson Tigers are packing their gear and making the 165 mile trip north to the Brainerd area for the 2nd Annual Battle at Fort Ripley (Or whatever we decided on calling it last year).

It's the time of year when the team does some baseball, some bonding, some dancin' (if you can call it that), and whatever we want to do to take our minds off of games like Belle Plaine and Victoria; and "hit the 'reset' button" as Skipper Koester would say.

With this being said, I'm giving everyone a heads up that because the resort is located in such a remote location, an internet connection will be tough to come by and the website will not be updated until the Sunday of our return.

Thank you to everyone for your support so far this season it's much appreciated. Wish us luck... and yes I'm bringing my camera.

Paradise even reserved a band this year to replace last years (below). I'm told the new band will play both types of music, Country and Western! Dress code states that boots must be worn... tank tops optional. Yeehaw!

The Tigers were just two errors short of completing the triple double in a 15-11 loss to Waconia. Luke Frauendienst, Greg Graham, Cody Boelter, Kirby Weckworth and Dan Dahn had multiple hit evenings. The best part of the night was that despite 25 runs, 31 hits and 12 errors the game ended before 10 p.m. and we all got to go home.

Tigers rally for two in ninth to tie, then survive as Winthrop puts a runner at second in the 9th, 10th and 11th innings. Tigers score three in 12th on an error, a mis-played bunt (it had been misting for six innings), another walk, two wild pitches and a sacrifice fly, not necessarily in that order. It was the third straight season the teams have required extra innings, the first time Henderson has won.
